i know i don't have a kid so i don't "know" what it's like. but i also know that kids can be made to respect your authority. i'm positive there is much more to this story than just the recounts of the banished mother.
if continental has started to exercise a policy on in-flight disturbances, i'll fly continental from now on.
kids are a headache in closed spaces like that. planes, trains, buses, ect.
you can't get away. i get twitchy when a kid starts singing loo loo looooo lo lo lo lo lo over and over again for an hour and i can't get away. ok ok so he's only 19 months old. take the stewardess's advice and use the baby benadryl.
parents need to exercise a courtesy to other passengers. having a kid doesn't give you a license to annoy or offend anyone. instead, having a kid is the opposite. its a burden that you choose to take on. having a kid is a pact that a parent makes to be responsible and take action, or else face the consequences of bad parenting. |

Oh Ninja.... You're going to have a rude awakening when you have little ninjas one day. Child raising is the most demanding 24/7 job on the planet. 9 times out of 10 the parents have no other choices when they get on these transports (they have to live too). It's a little different that a movie theater, for instance, where parents can choose to rent the movie, leave when the child is too loud,etc. True nobody gave them a license to annoy or offend you, however, those terms are highly subjective. For example, there used to be an old lady at Publix who would yell at people around her for driving their carts too fast, talking too loud, laughing in public, etc.... Although she was annoyed to her breaking point, nobody else seemed to mind. We've all been children and I'm sure we all put our parents through plenty of public embarrassment, however we tend to forget all the trials of growing up until we have little ones of our own. I'm not defending unruly kids, just cutting some slack to the ones who are forced to entertain themselves for hours because they have to go on a trip with their parents.

I hope that the flight attendent didn't seriously tell the mother to medicate her kid. Obviously she (he?) must not have kids...Because you wouldn't demand that on anyone!
On a side note, last month I flew a red eye to Illinois and I was nervous about not being able to sleep as there were a few kids on board. Luckily they passed out (even the screaming one that was in the boarding area) I do hear parents love nyquil for late night flights ;o)
Sorry, I think i just contradicted myself. lol. oh well!
